Throughout our SPEED Training Protocols, you will hear us talk about proper technique as it pertains to the various phases of the sprint. Although we feel that all coaches should be well-versed with regards to proper mechanics; we also want to make sure that we don't over-coach technique, especially with NON-TRACK Athletes.
With non-track athletes, we take somewhat of a conservative approach with regards to coaching "perfect" sprinting technique. It's important to be able to determine the difference between "BAD FORM" and an athlete's INDIVIDUAL MANNERISMS.
As coaches, we must remember that athletes have different limb lengths(anthropometry), muscle insertion points, mobility restrictions, fiber type ratios, bodyfat levels, etc. All These factors will lead to different sprinting techniques. In other words, proper sprinting technique cannot be a "ONE SIZE FITS ALL" approach.
Also note that "perfect form" goes out the window for NON-Track athletes during competition, due to the inherent random nature of sports.
